Initiatives and Projects
A partnership between researchers, educators, community leaderships, as well as local and state policy makers make these initiatives possible.
UNDERSTANDING SCHOOL READINESS
Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program
In partnership with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), the Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP) builds a more comprehensive understanding of school readiness. As Virginia’s statewide assessment system of children’s early learning skills, VKRP adds screening measures of mathematics, self-regulation, and social skills to complement Virginia’s statewide assessment of literacy skills using the Virginia Literacy Partnerships (VLP)’s Virginia Language & Literacy Screener: Kindergarten.
SUPPORTING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Advancing Effective Interactions and Instruction
In partnership with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), Advancing Effective Interactions & Instruction (AEII) provides high-quality professional development resources to promote positive teacher-child interactions and social-emotional instruction in Virginia’s birth-to-five programs. AEII resources support new work in the state from the Virginia Early Childhood Consultation (VECC) program.
SUPPORTING QUALITY INTERACTIONS
Virginia Early Childhood Consultation
In partnership with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), the Virginia Early Childhood Consultation (VECC) program provides coaching and training to identified early childhood programs to promote positive teacher-child interactions and social-emotional learning environments. VECC builds from AEII’s previous work and existing resources to support children across the state.
EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES FOR EDUCATORS
The ECE Resource Hub
The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Resource Hub is designed to help educators support our youngest learners, from birth to five. The Hub includes strategies, activities, and professional development resources to support children’s development.
FOSTERING EARLY LEARNING
STREAMin3 Curriculum
STREAMin3 is an engaging, interactions-based birth-to-five curriculum model developed in collaboration with and initial funding from Elevate Early Education and The New E3 School. Further funding was provided by the Virginia Department of Social Services, Obici Healthcare Foundation, and the Alleghany Foundation. Thanks to a partnership with the Virginia Department of Education, STREAMin3 is currently available as a curriculum option for publicly funded programs in Virginia.
